Partnerships for Effective Service to High-Risk Youth

This workshop will give pointers in forming various partnerships in order to provide effective services to High Risk Youth including, DYS and the Court System; Congregation and Community, Government Partnerships, and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Financial Management 101 for Non Profit Organizations

This workshop provides non-profit organizations with the basic ingredients for effective financial management of its operations. This class will help the participant define and understand the principles of financial management followed by optional classes that explore in detail the tools for financial management.

How to Run a Small Development Shop to Attract Maximum Revenue

Non-profit organizations should have a variety of funding sources, particularly in challenging financial times.  This workshop will look at individual contributions, private and government grants, major gifts, planned giving programs, appeal letters, special events, and programs fees.  Special attention will be given to how development directors working alone or with only 1 or 2 staff can juggle all of these simultaneously.

The purpose of this interactive, participatory workshop is that attendees take away a set of clearly defined development goals, and to identify some strategies for implementing those goals.  The workshop will focus on a) assessing and building fundraising capacity, and b) learning practical effective techniques for soliciting funds from individuals, groups and institutions (e.g. foundations).

Program Planning & Evaluation for High Impact: Logic Models & their uses

Presenter: Nika Elugardo, Director, Applied Evaluation Systems, Emmanuel Gospel Center (Click here for Presenter Bio)Logic models are tables, charts or narratives that help you demonstrate a link between your resources, your program activities and your results—especially outcomes oriented results.  We will study, practice and discuss various uses of logic models, including for strategic planning, program development, and evaluation.  At the end of this workshop, you will be able to create a simplified logic model for your church, program or everyday life activities.

Designing the Board You Need to Achieve Your Mission
Presenter: David Wright, Deputy Director, Black Ministerial Alliance

Leading Your Organization through Change
Presenters: David Wright, Deputy Director, Black Ministerial Alliance w/ Executive leaders from United Way of Massachusetts Bay, Emmanuel Gospel Center, Boston TenPoint Coalition
In this panel presentation, participants will learn how to navigate their organizations through change in a rapidly changing environment.  Participants will receive “key points” (not war stories) from a panel of individuals who have led their organizations through changes and/or crisis.  A great portion of the presentation will be a question and answer period to allow executive directors and organization leaders to ask questions and engage in open dialogue with the panelists.  The presentations will focus on the concepts of Adaptive Leadership, the Evolving Role of the Founder, and Different Approaches to Plan for Succession.

Protecting Your Organization to Save Your Mission
Presenter: David Wright, Deputy Director, Black Ministerial Alliance
Churches, social ministries, and community-based organizations are often the targets of lawsuits for many reasons.  While it is virtually impossible to completely prevent being sued, there is much an organization can do to minimize the damage it incurs are a result of these often spurious lawsuits.  This workshop will help leaders of organizations put on “layers of protection” by identifying potential weaknesses in their organizations and applying practical corrective measures.

Communicating your program or agency clearly is essential for obtaining corporate, foundation and government grants.  This workshop will provide advice on how to write successful proposals, coordinate effective site visits, and follow up after a positive or negative response.  This workshop is particularly beneficial for people with little or moderate experience in grant writing, but more experienced grant writers also will learn useful tips.
